SOAR's Third Annual Putting the Pieces Together
June 6, 2007

SOAR held it’s Third Annual “Putting the Pieces Together” community event on June 6 at the scenic Tukwila Community Center. This year’s event was attended by 175 people and offered 24 different workshops on a variety of topical areas related to early childhood and school-age children and youth programming. Keynote addresses were provided by Dr. Claudia Thomas, Mayor of Lakewood, Washington, and Dr. Graciela Italiano-Thomas, president and CEO of Thrive by Five Washington, the new public/private early learning partnership.

The theme of this year’s event was collaboration, and the workshops highlighted various local efforts benefiting children and youth throughout the Seattle-King County area. A primary objective of SOAR is to facilitate the building of partnerships, and the “Pieces” focus on local partnerships provides an excellent opportunity for learning and networking in our resource rich community.

SOAR is able to provide this event at no cost to participants due to the generous contribution of the workshop presenters and our co-sponsors:
  • Child Care Resources
  • Henry M. Jackson Foundation
  • School’s Out Washington
  • United Way of King County School Readiness Impact Council
  • Washington State University/King County Extension Service
Evaluations by event participants were very positive, and SOAR looks forward to “PIECES 4” in 2008.
